Shaffer, Stanton highlight 13 all-NEFC selections
The Salve Regina football team captured two major awards – defensive player of the year and offensive lineman of the year – and placed a program-high 12 individual players on the New England Football Conference all-conference teams.
- Hayden Stanton ’16 (defensive lineman) was named the defensive player of the year and earned a first team honor.
- Floyd Shaffer ’14 (center) is the third straight Seahawk to be named offensive lineman of the year and also earned first team honors for the second straight year.
- Josh Burnett ’14 (defensive back), Matt Conroy ’15 (linebacker), Paul Hurley ’15 (guard), Justin Johnson ’14 (tackle) and Phil Terio ’15 (defensive back, return specialist) were named to the first team.
- Dan Buonocore ’15 (running back), Danny Ives ’16 (linebacker), Alex Leddy ’16 (tight end), Rory McEntee ’15 (defensive end) and Matt Traynor ’15 (wide receiver) were named to the second team.
“It is always nice to be honored with an award and to have half of the starters with an all-conference honor this season is not only great for the individuals but for the whole team as well,” said head coach Kevin Gilmartin. “The honor and respect for the coaches across the conference really comes through with our selections this season.”
The Seahawks will conclude their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they host Western Connecticut State University in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast Bowl. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Gaudet Field.
