Trio named to D3football.com all-region team
Members of Salve Regina’s football team continue to earn postseason awards as Floyd Shaffer ’14, Phil Terio ’15 and Hayden Stanton ’16 were named to D3football.com all-region East teams.
Stanton, who was named to the first team, was also named the New England Football Conference defensive player of the year. He was fifth on the team with 57 tackles, including a league-leading 11.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. Stanton ranked in the top five in several single-season categories, including yards from tackles for loss, blocked kicks, quarterback sacks, yards from sacks and tackles for loss.
Terio was named to the second team at specialist and cornerback. This season, he picked off two passes and defended eight more while adding 51 tackles, including 4.0 for loss. Terio is the top return specialist in the league, with 18 punt returns for 200 yards and a career-long 61-yard touchdown return this season. He averaged 11.1 yards a punt return while handling a majority of the kickoff returns as well.
Shaffer was also named the New England Football Conference offensive lineman of the year. He centered an offense that set a new program record with 604 total yards of offense against Maine Maritime Academy. Salve Regina averaged 412.0 yards a game this season and 193.8 yards rushing.
