Diversity trainer Lee Mun Wah to visit Salve Regina Feb. 24
Filmmaker, author, educator and diversity trainer Lee Mun Wah will visit Salve Regina Monday, Feb. 24 as part of Multicultural Education Week. His scheduled activities include student dialogue groups, a faculty/staff workshop, a public lecture and a documentary screening.
For more than 25 years, Wah was a resource specialist and counselor in the San Francisco Unified School District. He later became a consultant to private schools, working with students that had severe learning and behavioral issues. Wah is now the executive director of Stirfry Seminars and Consulting, a diversity training company that provides educational tools and workshops on issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication and awareness, mindful facilitation, and conflict mediation techniques.

Faculty/staff competency development workshop: “Unlearning Racism in Schools”
1-5 p.m., Ochre Court state dining room
“Unlearning Racism” provides a forum for participants to discover the conscious and unconscious ways in which racism permeates our attitudes and behaviors in our schools and in our relationships with each other.
Keynote address: “What Stands Between Us”
7 p.m., Bazarsky Lecture Hall
To learn about someone who is different from ourselves, we must leave the comfort of our familiar world and make a connection through honesty, curiosity and our willingness to be open to new ideas and relationships. Wah will explain how to break down the walls we have created out of fear and confront what stands between us.
Documentary screening: “If these Halls Could Talk”
8 p.m., Bazarsky Lecture Hall
In the summer of 2010, Wah brought together 11 college students from around the country to explore issues of race on their campuses. In the process of sharing their stories and life experiences, they discovered and exposed the complexity and anguish that accompany those experiences, while trying to be understood and validated in a predominantly white environment.
