Cayley Christoforou showing piece at Boston dance festival

Cayley Christoforou ’15, a dance minor at Salve Regina, will show her piece “Noire” at the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival on Saturday, Aug. 16.

A piece that demonstrates female struggles and self-empowerment in a contemporary aesthetic, “Noire” premiered early this year and was performed at the Extensions Dance Company concert, the American College Dance Festival, the Student Choreography Showcase and the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance’s scholarship gala. It is danced by JennaLyn Geysen ’16, Amanda Morton ’15, Chrissy Rooney ’14 and Alysia Sjoberg ’16.

As a member of Extensions Dance Company and SRU Dance, Christoforou has graced the stage in every possible performance since her first semester at Salve Regina. An English communications major, she is currently interning in the marketing office at Urbanity Dance Company in Boston and recently completed the Pantos Project Intensive for additional dance training.

Established in 2012, the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival brings a diverse array of contemporary dance artists together from across the United States, inviting the greater Boston community to experience a weekend of high-quality performances. Choreographers apply and are selected for the festival, and Christoforou will be showing her piece alongside professional artists from across the country.

“Noire” will be presented during the noon showcase in the Paramount Center. In addition, adjunct faculty member Andrea Dawn Shelley will perform in her choreography with her dance company iMee (Infinite Movement Ever Evolving) during the 7:30 p.m. showcase.
