Three student-athletes earn conference honors
Three members of the baseball and men’s lacrosse teams – Michael DeFusco ’21, Pat Leary ’21 and Mike Mongelli ’19 – recently earned honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Baseball
DeFusco was named rookie of the week after batting .429 and recording hits in each of Salve Regina’s three games last week. He had three hits against Framingham State University, scoring two runs and driving in a pair. He also stole two bases. He had a three-RBI game to close out the week as the Seahawks defeated Suffolk University 7-6.
The Seahawks (6-7, 0-0 CCC) will begin regular-season conference play this weekend.
Men’s lacrosse
Leary was named rookie of the week after playing a part in five of Salve Regina’s 11 goals in an 11-8 conference win over Roger Williams University. He scored four goals and registered one assist in the contest. One of his goals came in a man-up situation. Defensively, Leary grabbed two ground balls in the game.
Mongelli was named defensive player of the week after helping Salve Regina to the win against Roger Williams. He had seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the contest.
The Seahawks (6-3, 1-1 CCC) host SUNY Maritime in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.
