Men’s rugby competing in national championship tournament
The men’s rugby team is traveling to Life University in Marietta, Georgia this weekend to compete in the Final Four of the National Small College Rugby Organization’s national championship tournament.
Salve Regina will face defending champions The Claremont Colleges at 8 p.m. Friday, April 27 in the semifinal round, with the winner advancing to the championship game at noon Sunday, April 29.
All matches will be streamed live via the NSCRO YouTube channel.
“Bringing Salve Regina back to a national championship has been my goal since I was a freshman,” said captain Joseph Goff ’18. “It’s been an honor to lead this group of young men the last two years. It really feels like a dream come true to be in this position. Now it’s time to take it home.”
Salve Regina defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 48-22 in November 2017 to punch its ticket to the Final Four, marking its first return to the tournament since winning the championship during the 2011-2012 season.
Salve Regina’s 7s squad has also qualified for the National Small College Rugby Organization’s 7s national championships, which will be hosted in Philadelphia the weekend of June 2-3.
