Eatman to discuss publicly engaged teaching and learning
An expert in the field of community engaged teaching and learning will discuss the significance of publicly engaged education and scholarship for institutions of higher education and the communities in which they are situated when he visits Salve Regina this week.
Dr. Timothy Eatman will present “Transformative Scholarship for Engaged 21st Century Institutions: Beware of Shrinking Imagination” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Bazarsky Lecture Hall.
Eatman is visiting campus under the auspices of the Davis educational grant to further inspire the campus community on the importance of community engaged teaching, learning and scholarship in the 21st century. In addition to his public presentation, Eatman will meet with the current Davis faculty fellows and facilitate several faculty development workshops.
An educational sociologist and publicly engaged scholar, Eatman is the inaugural dean of the Honors Living Learning Community and associate professor in the Department of Urban Education at Rutgers University Newark. He is a widely sought-after speaker, workshop facilitator and collaborator who has earned local, national and international recognition for his leadership in advancing understandings about the multi-faceted impact of publicly engaged scholarship in the university of the 21st century.
Eatman’s presentation is supported by a generous grant from the Davis Educational Foundation, established by Stanton and Elizabeth Davis after Mr. Davis’ retirement as chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc.
