Three student-athletes earn conference honors

Three student-athletes – Ashley Cody ’19, Evan MacDonald ’21 and Christina Moran ’22 – recently received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Cody was named offensive player of the week for field hockey after scoring seven goals and three assists in two conference wins last week. She had two goals in each half against Western New England University Oct. 10, helping Salve Regina to a 7-4 win. Cody contributed three more goals and two assists in a 9-2 win over Gordon College Oct. 13.

“Ashley has been instrumental in our recent offensive success,” said head coach Jennifer Foster. “It is great to see her recognized at the conference level.”

The Seahawks (7-7, 4-5 CCC) finish their conference home slate at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they host Endicott College at Gaudet Field.

Evan MacDonald

MacDonald was named offensive player of the week for men’s soccer after contributing to three shutout victories last week. He started with a goal and two assists in a 6-0 non-conference win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Oct. 8. MacDonald then assisted on both goals as part of a 2-0 win over conference rival Roger Williams University. He finished the week with an assist in a 2-0 non-conference win over Lasell College.

In total, MacDonald had one goal, five assists, and seven points. He has already set the single-season program record for assists and is currently tied for the Division III national lead in the category with 14.

“Evan continues to be one of the most dominant attacking players in all of New England Division III soccer this season,” said head coach Craig O’Rourke II. “The partnership that he has developed up top with Donnie (Igo) and Owen (Stevenson) have made our front three and overall team attacking shape extremely potent and efficient this season.”

Salve Regina (13-0-2, 4-0-1 CCC) plays at Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Christina Moran

Moran was named rookie of the week for women’s cross country after finishing with a personal best time of 24:09 at the Connecticut College Invitational, earning 110th place of 307 runners in the 6K race.

“Chrissy continues to impress – and improve – with each race,” said head coach Rob McGuiness. “I am encouraged to see her race so well against a national-caliber field. In just half a season on the team, Chrissy has already established herself as one of our key contributors. Her future is so bright. I am eager to see what she will do in the postseason meets.”

Salve Regina returns to action at the conference championship on Saturday, Oct. 27.
