Cody named offensive player of the year for field hockey

Ashley Cody ’20 has been named offensive player of the year and first team all-conference for field hockey by the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Joining Cody on the all-conference teams were Hannah Filiault ’20 and Eliza Timms ’22.

A forward, Cody is currently the NCAA Division III leader in scoring, averaging 1.94 goals per game. Her 4.50 points per game are also the best in the division. She currently has 36 goals and 11 assists for 83 points. Her goals have been timely as well, with a league-leading six game winners.

“Ashley has undoubtedly had a very successful year on offense,” said head coach Jennifer Foster. “She came up big for us in many games and continues to grow as a player. It is exciting to know she has her senior year ahead of her.”

Midfielder Filiault has one goal and three assists for five points. Her goal gave the Seahawks their first win of 2018 in overtime against Thomas College Sept. 9. “Hannah has been a consistent player for us in the midfield all year,” Foster said. “She steps well to the ball and is a smart passer. We can rely on her to support our offensive transition and defensive recovery.”

Timms, also a forward, ranks second on the team and fifth in the conference in goals, and second on the team and third in the conference in points. Her 43 points are the most ever for a Seahawk freshman. “Eliza has been a pleasant surprise this season,” Foster said. “She stepped into a starting role, and with her speed and scrappiness in the circle she has been a great compliment to Ashley.”

Salve Regina (10-9, 5-7 CCC) earned the No. 4 seed in the conference postseason and will play Endicott College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in the conference semifinals.
