Birrell earns third All-New England selection
Kaitlyn Birrell ’13 has been named to the NCAA Division III women’s soccer All-New England Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), marking the third time in her career she has earned an All-Region selection. Birrell was one of just seven players from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) to be honored.
“I am so happy for Katie to yet again be recognized on the NSCAA All-New England Team,” said head coach Kerri Scroope. “Last season Katie led a team which included 10 seniors to the most successful season in program history. This year she had a much different task. Katie was put in a leadership role to guide a very young and inexperienced team. She not only continued to dominate on the pitch, but also utilized her experience to help educate and teach the 11 freshmen.”
The senior forward earned her second consecutive CCC offensive player of the year award this season, leading the conference with 46 points, 21 goals and four hat tricks. She finished her Salve Regina career as the program’s all-time leader in nearly every offensive category including points (181), points per game (2.35), goals (74), goals per game (0.96), game-winning scores (14), assists (33), and assists per game (0.43).
