Alternative Spring Break using Salve Regina as “home base”
Have you ever wanted to volunteer in the community but can’t seem to find the time or the right opportunity? The Mercy Center for Spiritual Life is inviting students to join the Alternative Spring Break and volunteer at locations throughout Rhode Island.
This year, instead of traveling to Boston, New York or other urban centers, Alternative Spring Break will use Salve Regina as a “home base,” doing daily community service entirely within the state of Rhode Island. All meals and transportation will be provided.
“This is where the university is, this is where we live, and the exposure that the students will get throughout the state will give them a ‘bigger picture’ idea that the needs of the poorest residents in Rhode Island are just as great as the needs in other states,” said campus minister Matthew Kelly.
Alternative Spring Break will run from Friday, March 8 through Tuesday, March 12. After Tuesday, students will go home for the remainder of their break. This way, the first half of their break will be involved with Alternative Spring Break activities, while also allowing them to spend the second half of their break on vacation.
