Book discussion series continues with Chesterton’s “Saint Francis of Assisi”

The “Reading Christian Classics” book discussion series will continue Thursday, Feb. 28 with G.K. Chesterton’s “Saint Francis of Assisi.” All members of the Salve Regina community, along with friends of the University, are invited to participate.

Francis of Assisi is, after Mary of Nazareth, perhaps the greatest saint in the Christian calendar, and one of the most influential men in the whole of human history. By universal acclaim, Chesterton’s biography is considered the best appreciation of Francis’s life – the one that gets to the heart of the matter.

The series will continue throughout the 2012-2013 academic year, and participants are welcome to attend as many sessions as they wish. The remaining schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, March 21 – “Wise Blood” by Flannery O’Connor
  • Thursday, April 25 – “Martin Luther: A Life” by Martin Marty

Discussions will be held in the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will last about one hour. Each participant should furnish his or her copy of the book, read it prior to the session and come willing to share interpretations or comments.
