Birrell, Harden, Pendergast earn conference awards
Kaitlyn Birrell ’13 has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women’s basketball defensive player of the year for the second year in a row and Meaghan Harden ’16 has been named the CCC rookie of the year. Both were first-team selections to the all-conference team, while Marissa Pendergast ’14 was named to the second team.
Birrell was a key contributor on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 3.4 steals per game, which was second in the conference among all players. She also averaged 10.9 points per game and ranks first in the conference with 6.6 assists per game this season for the Seahawks.
Harden currently leads the league in field goal percentage (47 percent), while ranking third in points per game (16.9) and three-point percentage (38 percent). She tallied CCC rookie of the week honors four weeks in a row this season.
Pendergast managed to crack the top 15 scoring list in the conference (11.1 points per game) despite missing four league games with two different injuries. She ranks seventh in the league in rebounds per game (8.8) and just behind Birrell in steals per game (3.1).
