Football team welcomes trio of coaches

Football head coach Kevin Gilmartin has announced the hiring of three new assistant coaches. Jack Cooper, Michael Moffitt and Rob Shedlosky will join the coaching staff for the 2013 season.

Cooper comes to Salve Regina after a successful four-year career at Southern Connecticut State University and will work with the strong safeties and outside linebackers. He was a four-year letter winner as a middle linebacker and served as team captain his senior season.

Cooper brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Seahawk football program. He currently serves as the head strength coach at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, Conn., where he designs and operates the weightlifting and conditioning program for the football team while assisting the other sports programs and student-athletes. Cooper has also worked with several youth coaching clinics, including the Berlin High School football team, where he taught youths ages 14-18 the skills and concepts of football.

Moffitt served as the offensive graduate assistant coach at American International College for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, working primarily with the tight ends and fullbacks while running position meetings and assisting with special teams. He helped AIC to its first-ever Northeast-10 conference championship game in 2012.

Prior to AIC, Moffitt worked with the Czech Republic’s Prague Panthers, where he coached the offensive line, planned individual practices and weekly game plans for the A and B teams and assisted with the junior team. He also played on the offensive line of the A Team, which competed in the Austrian League. Moffitt has also coached for Hudson Valley Community College, Denmark’s Sollerod Gold Diggers, the U19 Danish team and the Senior Danish National Team.

Shedlosky will serve as an offensive line coach after serving in the same capacity at Fairleigh Dickinson University last season. He also assisted in managing field equipment and supervised game day field setup and breakdown. Off the field, Shedlosky broke down practice and game film, aided in weekly game planning for the run and pass protection schemes and helped with the team’s strength and conditioning program.

Prior to Fairleigh Dickinson, Shedlosky was the offensive and defensive line coach at Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School in Bridgewater, N.J. He was also a line coach at the Let ‘Em Play Football Academy and an assistant director at the Bridgewater-Raritan Youth Football Camp.
