The schedule includes:
Keynote address with Salve parent Tony Shepley, owner and president of Shepley Wood Products. Shepley is passionate about working with young people starting their careers and watching how they learn, adapt and find success. He will share his own story of starting a business from scratch and discuss how to turn adversity into advantage.
Breakout sessions on interviews and networking or resumes and cover letters. The interviews and networking session will review best practices and provide opportunities for students to sharpen their interviewing skills and receive valuable feedback. The resume and cover letter session is designed for students who have never created a resume or who haven’t touched up their resume in a while.
Financial literacy presentation with Bill Bianchi, manager at the Rhode Island Student Loan Authority. Students will learn how to recognize financial imbalance warning signs, establish financial goals, set the framework for a financial plan, create a realistic budget, develop a savings habit, control expenses and select appropriate debt reduction options.
Breakout sessions on graduate school or the first 100 days. The graduate school session will address the process and timeline for applying to programs, including identifying target schools, preparing a personal statement and requesting letters of recommendation. The 100 days session will focus on employer perspectives and strategies to help students stand out for the right reasons and position themselves for long-term career success.
Roundtables with alumni Dominic DiSano ’14, Michael Samek ’14, Nate Ward ’16, Erica Manchester ’17 and Annie Tobin Fickel ’03. These alumni will discuss how they found their current positions and how their Salve classes and activities influenced their career readiness.
Networking reception. Students will enjoy light snacks as they continue conversations with alumni and put their networking skills to the test.
