42 students participating in summer programs abroad

Forty-two Salve Regina students are participating in study abroad programs this summer, with the majority taking part in two distinct programs offered by the University.

The largest group of 22 students is currently in Limerick, Ireland with nursing faculty Dr. Debra Cherubini and Michelle McCarthy. Students engage in the two-week program as the culmination of their spring semester course International Service Learning.

This year, the program is being hosted by Salve Regina’s long-term exchange partner institution, Mary Immaculate College, a Mercy institution that is part of the University of Limerick system. Nursing majors are visiting a variety of specialized health care organizations and taking part in lectures on public health and the national health care system in Ireland. They are also exploring Irish culture and history while visiting sites in and around the cities of Limerick, Galway and Dublin, including a visit to Catherine’s House at Mercy International Centre on Baggot Street in Dublin.

Another 19 students are currently in Oxford, England for a four-week program with multiple course options, including The Literature of Oxford with Dr. Stephen Trainor and European Financial Markets and Currency with Samuel Sacco. Students are also enrolled in courses taught by local faculty, such as Shakespeare and Oxford Art and Architecture. Students in the Oxford program take part in multiple course-related day trips to London, Bath, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon and Blenheim Palace.

In addition, one student is taking part in programs offered in Spain and Morocco.
