Dance program presenting two uniquely different events
Salve Regina’s dance program will present two uniquely different events at the Casino Theatre this week, both directed by associate professor Lindsay Guarino with adjunct faculty member Melody Gamba.
Expressions for Empowerment will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, while Fall Preview: Works in Progress is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
Expressions for Empowerment is a collaborative performance giving voice and agency to the University’s dancers, actors, musicians and poets. These truth-tellers unite to share visions of and for empowerment with the Salve Regina community.
Fall Preview: Works in Progress will feature new works performed by Extensions Dance Company along with special guest alumni. Cayley Christoforou ’15 and Marissa Masson ’19 will present new works performed by Extensions. Christoforou will also show a piece that was recently invited to the highly competitive Young Choreographer’s Festival in New York City.
Amanda Narciso ’12 will present two award-winning pieces performed by the students of Spotlight Dance Studio in Taunton, Massachusetts. Narciso is the owner and director of the studio. Haley Andrews ’18, who currently choreographs and performs with T2 Dance Project in Boulder, Colorado, will perform a solo.
Both performances will feature “Lafayette,” a work by guest artist Kimberley Cooper of Calgary-based Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. Cooper is an acclaimed choreographer and the artistic director of DJD, Canada’s premier jazz dance company and school.
Tickets for Expressions for Empowerment are $5 for general admission and free for Salve Regina students. Tickets for Fall Preview: Works in Progress are $8 for general admission, $5 for Salve Regina faculty and staff and free for Salve Regina students.
