Alumnus accepts 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Scallenge”
Former Seahawk great Jon Hazzard ’07 has accepted the “Scallenge” to play former Boston Celtic Brian Scalabrine in the 98.5 The Sports Hub’s one-on-one contest at the Celtics’ practice facility Thursday, Jan. 17.
From Hazzard’s recent e-mail to his former college coach Sean Foster: “I sent in the video and was selected by the radio station as one of the finalists (good thing my shooting is better than my trash talk). I’ve been getting a lot of airtime on 98.5 this week up here in Massachusetts, so it sounds like I won’t be able to catch him off guard.”
Hazzard’s video entry showcases his long-distance shooting ability, plenty of three-pointers at the outset (uncut), along with a handful of spectacular dunks.
Morning talk show hosts on 98.5 The Sports Hub, Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb (“Toucher and Rich”), have touted Hazzard as the contestant with the best skills to take on Scalabrine. The 34-year-old Scalabrine last played in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls and turned down a chance to become an assistant coach with the club to pursue opportunities in broadcasting.
Hazzard, 27, has kept his skills sharp by coming each year to the Salve Regina alumni basketball game (this year’s game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2). He works in global alliance operations at EMC Corporation in Franklin, Mass.
