The Salve Regina Endowed Scholarships are based on a wide criterion — from different majors and interests to community service and personal triumphs. Many of the Salve Regina scholarships were created by the generous alumni, families and friends of the University to help benefit students so that they can continue their success while here.
Some scholarships to highlight include:
Pauline Hudson Barge Memorial Scholarship
Pauline Hudson Barge, a Newport public school teacher had overcome enormous obstacles to dedicate her life to equality, education and opportunity for all children. Her legacy is now kept alive by her four children who have established this scholarship in her memory. This award is given to a qualifying junior or senior majoring in education who is committed to a career in teaching.
Nancy Larkin Caputi Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by alumna Mary K. Spengler ’68 to honor her friend Ms. Caputi’s affinity and passion for hospice care. This scholarship honors Ms. Caputi’s profound influence on the many individuals who have learned the meaning and importance of quality end-of-life care.
The Walter & Eileen Jeanes Jachna Scholarship
The Walter & Eileen Jeanes Jachna Scholarship is a gift of alumna Eileen Jeanes Jachna ’62 and her husband Walter, who are long-time friends of Salve Regina University. Mr. & Mrs. Jachna are active community members and support many local causes. This scholarship is to encourage students who are pursuing service-oriented professions, such as nursing, education or social work.
