Baseball players earn regional honors
Ryan Kelly ’16 has been named to the 2014 D3baseball.com all-region team (New England), while Vincent Roth has been selected to pitch in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s all-star game.
Ryan Kelly
Kelly started all 41 games in the outfield for Salve Regina (26-15), collecting 16 extra-base hits (three home runs, five triples and eight doubles). He led the team in home runs (three), runs (44), stolen bases (17) and batting average (.380). Kelly’s hit-by-pitch school record (38) has been achieved in just two seasons, with this year’s mark ranking seventh nationally.
Vincent Roth
Roth tied for 26th nationally in pitching victories (eight), hurling two complete-game shutouts while maintaining a 1.71 earned run average in 63.1 innings pitched. He earned a postseason victory as the Seahawks defeated Fitchburg State University in first-round action of the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England championships. Roth also etched his name in the Seahawk record book, as he crafted the all-time best earned run average among Salve Regina pitchers with minimum 100 innings pitched.
The all-star game will be played at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. The University Division all-stars, comprised of New England’s top Division I players, will take on the College Division all-stars, which will be represented by the region’s best Division II players and top Division III seniors.
