Community service opportunities: October
The Office of Community Service has several service opportunities available during the month of October. To register for one of the service opportunities listed below, or to view all service opportunities, visit the Community Service website.

Friday, Oct. 7: Trinity Church Pumpkin Patch
Volunteers are needed from 5-8 p.m. to unload pumpkins from various trucks at Trinity Church in Newport. This site is located on the trolley line.
Sunday, Oct. 9: Newport Marathon
Volunteers are needed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help with dune protection and recycling for the Newport Marathon at Easton’s (First) Beach. Three- and four-hour shifts are available. Time slots are 5-8 a.m., 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Transportation is not provided, as this event is in walking distance from campus.
Thursday, Oct. 13 and Friday, Oct. 14: Daffy Days
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in “Let’s Get Daffy” bags, which will be given to Newport residents and businesses to plant throughout the city this fall. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.
Saturday, Oct. 15: Relay for Life
Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to help with setup and breakdown for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on campus. Two-hour shifts are available. Time slots are 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Transportation is not available for this on-campus event.
Saturday, Oct. 22: Alumni Day of Service
Current students are invited to volunteer alongside alumni, families and friends during the second annual Alumni Day of Service. Participants will volunteer from 10-11:30 a.m. at God’s Community Gardens (formerly known as Methodist Community Gardens), located at 200 Turner Road in Middletown. Transportation is not provided.
Saturday, Oct. 29: City of Newport Fall Recycling Day
Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to noon at Easton’s (First) Beach to set up the event, help traffic flow, greet residents and break down the event. This site is located on the trolley line.
