Cronin, Phalon receive ECAC honors
Amanda Cronin ’17 and Danielle Phalon ’16 recently received honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference for women’s ice hockey. Cronin was named the rookie of the week, while Phalon was named the player of the week.
Salve Regina finished the week 3-0 with wins over Nichols College, the University of Southern Maine and Plymouth State University to improve to 11-5-3 on the year and 6-4 in the conference.
Cronin finished the week with five points, including three assists in Salve Regina’s 7-2 win over Nichols. She had two points against Plymouth State, including a power play goal in the second period to give the Seahawks their first lead of the game.
Phalon had a seven-point week for the Seahawks. Against Nichols, she netted both her goals on a power play, while her final assist against Plymouth State came on the game-winner quickly into the third period. Phalon is seventh in the league in scoring with a team-high 20 points on the year.
Joining Cronin and Phalon on the weekly honor roll was goalie Colleen Marcik ’17, who recorded two wins on the week for the Seahawks. She opened the week with a 7-2 win over Nichols with 31 saves, before edging Southern Maine for a 3-1 win, stopping 29 of the 30 shots she faced.
Salve Regina returns to the ice when the Seahawks host New England College at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, followed by a contest with Castleton State College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. Both games will be held at St. George’s School.
