Cross country teams receive academic awards
The men’s and women’s cross country teams were recently named all-academic teams by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. This marks the seventh consecutive year that the women have been recognized and the fourth consecutive year that the men have received the honor.
For a team to be eligible for academic honors, it must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 and compile a team score at an NCAA regional championship.
In addition, Alex Demeo ’19 earned an individual award for her performance in the classroom and on the course. The award capped a solid season of racing for Demeo, who posted a personal best at 6,000 meters in the NCAA Division III regional championship and earned the first individual invitational victory of her career at the Elms Blazer Classic.
“This award is so well deserved,” said head coach Rob McGuinness. “Alex brings so much energy and consistency to everything that she does, whether it is a workout or a research project. She is in good company among the other Seahawks who have received this award, and that is exactly where she belongs.”
