Cross country teams take titles at Tri-State Invitational
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams captured the team championship at the Tri-State Invitational last Saturday, marketing the second consecutive weekend that both teams won their invitational races.
Men’s cross country
Scott Brewer ’18 and Aidan Lynch ’21 led the scoring charge, finishing seventh and eighth overall in the field of 86 runners. Andrew Sardelli ’18, Dave Napierkowski ’18 and Riley Rancourt ’20 capped the scoring for Salve Regina, with Dan Donnelly ’19 and Chandler Da Cruz ’20 running at No. 6 and No. 7.
Salve Regina won the team championship with a score of 58. This is the first time in program history that the team has won back-to-back invitationals.
Women’s cross country
Olivia Wilson ’18 surged into the lead in the final mile, winning the individual championship and leading Salve Regina to the team title. She ran most of the race with teammates Alex Demeo ’19 and Olivia Owen ’20, who finished second and third in the field of 74 runners.
Cianna Lynch ’20 and Alexa Cipkas ’18 closed out the scoring for Salve Regina, with Sydney DeCesare ’21 and Fran Moore ’21. The Seahawks placed all five scorers – and all seven varsity runners – inside the top 15 to capture the team championship.
The victory marks the Seahawks’ third win in four years at the Tri-State Invitational, and the second time in four years that a Salve Regina runner has earned the individual championship.
The Seahawks return to action at the Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 14.
