Events planned to honor active military, veterans
With Veterans Day approaching, members of the Salve Regina community will have several opportunities to honor active military personnel and veterans in the coming week.
Cards for Troops and Veterans
Jamie Lee Crespo ’14 has organized two opportunities for students to make cards for currently deployed service members and wounded warriors. Tables will be set up in the Miley Hall lobby from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 and in the O’Hare Academic Center lobby from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
The letters will be collected and sent to Operation Gratitude for distribution. The organization annually sends more than 100,000 care packages and personal letters of appreciation to U.S. service members deployed in hostile regions, to their children left behind, and to veterans, first responders, wounded warriors and their caregivers.
Military Appreciation Day
Military Appreciation Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 during the football game vs. Coast Guard Academy, which kicks off at noon at Gaudet Field. All veterans and active personnel with a military ID will receive a gift compliments of the University’s ROTC program. In addition, Alexandra Ventura ’15, who recently contracted as an ROTC cadet, will take her oath of contracting during halftime.
Alumni and parents who have served or are currently serving in the military are invited to tailgate with the Office of Alumni/Parent Programs beginning at 11 a.m. Click here for more information.
Honoring Our Veterans
The Department of Nursing and the Student Nurse Organization invite members of the Salve Regina community to celebrate and honor veterans from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 in the Ochre Court.
Those who attend are asked to donate items for active military members overseas. Items requested include cereal/protein bars, instant coffee, gum, popcorn, travel mugs, toothpaste and toothbrushes, dental floss, hand and foot warmers and crossword/Sudoku books.
