Extensions Dance Company holding auditions Saturday
Extensions and Extensions II, the University’s pre-professional dance companies, will hold auditions at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 in Rodgers Recreation Center, Room 039.
Students who wish to audition should be prepared to learn ballet, modern/contemporary and jazz combinations and perform in small groups. There is no need to prepare any material prior to the audition.
Directed by assistant professor Lindsay Guarino, Extensions and Extensions II are both academic courses with a full year commitment. The selected ensembles will meet weekly for technique class, rehearse approximately 10 hours a week and perform a number of times throughout the year.
Extensions performs in two mainstage concerts at the Casino Theatre and at off-campus events throughout the region. Extensions trains at an advanced level of technique while working with a variety of guest artists who visit campus and set choreography in intensive-style workshops. Featured guest artists in the 2017-2018 academic year will include Jon Lehrer, artistic director of Lehrer Dance in Buffalo and Betsi Graves, artistic director of Urbanity Dance in Boston.
Extensions II is the junior company to Extensions. Dancers will perform in one of the two mainstage concerts at the Casino Theatre in addition to the Student Choreography Showcase in April. First-year students will be cast in Extensions II only.
Students who plan to audition should arrive early to warm up and register. For more information, contact Guarino at (401) 341-2422 or lindsay.guarino@salve.edu. Updates and casting will be posted to the Extensions Dance Company Facebook page. Follow Extensions on Instagram for updates and for more information on the dance program.
