Fantasia, O’Connell receive NE Hockey Conference honors
Amanda Fantasia ’20 and Jennifer O’Connell ’19 recently received honors from the New England Hockey Conference.
Fantasia was named player of the week after scoring twice in the Seahawks’ victory over Johnson & Wales University and added another goal on the power play versus nationally ranked Endicott College.
“Fantasia capitalized on her opportunities and her willingness to score,” said head coach Beth McCann. “I’m looking forward to her unleashing the player within.”
O’Connell was named goaltender of the week after making 20 saves in the Seahawks’ 6-3 victory over Johnson & Wales and 54 saves versus Endicott. She also turned aside 41 shots from Connecticut College during a mid-week clash. In three games, O’Connell recorded a .942 save percentage and surrendered seven goals to high-octane opponents.
“O’Connell has been the backbone of our defense,” McCann said. “She is consistent and brings her best every time she steps on the ice.”
Salve Regina (2-10, 1-5 NEHC) travels to face Nichols College at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 in a non-conference matchup.
