Field hockey earns Team Sportsmanship Award, conference honors
The Salve Regina field hockey team has received the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Team Sportsmanship Award, while Lisa Bucci ’14, Kelly Burke ’13, Erin Demers ’15, Lindsey Mazzola ’16, Murphy McCann ’15 and Abigail Tepper ’16 earned individual honors.
Bucci, Burke, Demers, Mazzola and McCann were each named to the All-CCC second team, while Tepper was named the CCC rookie of the year.
This marks the second consecutive season that the Seahawks have been honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award. The team consistently demonstrated fair play and respect for their opponents on the field, as evident by the Seahawks receiving just one yellow card on the entire season.
Burke led Salve Regina in both points and goals this season, finishing fourth in the conference with 33 points, and third in the league with 14 goals. After three seasons, she ranks second on Salve Regina’s all-time list for both points (83) and goals (36).
Bucci led the Seahawks with nine assists, ranking her third in the conference. She also placed second on the team in both points (31) and goals (11). Demers was Salve Regina’s top defenseman this season, starting 14 games and giving the Seahawks a consistent and reliable defender in their own zone.
As one of the top midfielders in the conference, Mazzola enjoyed a strong freshman season. She recorded five points on a goal and three assists. McCann started all 17 games in net for Seahawks this season, ranking third in the conference with 140 saves on the season.
Tepper had an outstanding freshman campaign, finishing second on the team with 11 goals while also ranking third with 23 points. Her 11 goals came on just 19 shots, giving her a .579 shooting percentage.
