Field hockey team earns national academic award
The field hockey team has received the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/Division III National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) academic team award for the sixth consecutive year, while nine Seahawk players were named to the 2012 NFHCA academic squad.
Brianna Cain ’15, Mary Cain ’16, Alexisse Clinger ’16, Kelly Corey ’16, Erin Demers ’15, Julia Grover ’16, Heather Kapatoes ’14, Emma St. Laurent ’13 and Abigail Tepper ’16 were the student-athletes named to the academic squad.
“As a team, we have players from a variety of majors and our players do a wonderful job of balancing their academic and athletic commitments,” said head coach Jennifer Foster. “This is one award our entire team was a part of and a great accomplishment we can all take pride in and continue to build on in the future.”
To be eligible for individual honors, student-athletes were required to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. To be recognized for the academic team award, field hockey clubs must compile a combined GPA of at least 3.00 or better during the first semester.
The Seahawks were among 120 Division III schools to receive the honor, joining all six schools representing the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The nine Salve Regina players were among 63 in the league.
