Field hockey team earns national award
The field hockey team has received the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III national academic team award, while five Seahawk players were named to the 2016 NFHCA academic squad.
This marks the 10th consecutive year that the team has earned this honor. To be recognized for the academic team award, field hockey clubs must compile a combined GPA of at least 3.00 or better during the first semester of the academic year.
“I am very proud of our team’s continued commitment to excelling in the classroom,” said head coach Jennifer Foster. “Being a student-athlete at Salve Regina is demanding and our players do a wonderful job of rising to the challenge.”
Seahawks named to the academic squad include Ashley Cody ’20, Molly Lafferty ’20, Jessie Severino ’18, Sarah Thompson ’17 and Brooke Tolley ’18. In order to be eligible for the individual honors, student-athletes are required to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the academic year.
