Field hockey team to “Play 4 the Cure” Oct. 15
The field hockey team will participate in its annual “Play 4 the Cure” campaign when it hosts Endicott College at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Gaudet Field in Middletown.
Seahawk players will wear pink jerseys pre-game and will hand out pink bracelets to their opponents during pre-game announcements. The team hopes to draw awareness to cancer research and raise funds to find a cure through this special game.
The Seahawks have established a secure online donation site with the National Foundation for Cancer Research, which will receive all donations collected throughout the game.
“Annually we look forward to bringing attention to this worthy cause,” said head coach Jennifer Foster. “Our hopes are that friends, family members and fans of Salve Regina field hockey will come out Saturday and support our team’s efforts.”
In 2016, the American Cancer Society estimates that among U.S. women there will be 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer, 61,000 new cases of in situ breast cancer and 40,450 breast cancer deaths.
