Four Seahawks earn conference honors

Congratulations to the following student athletes, who recently received honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference:
Softball: Kelsey Boarman ’17 and Francesca Galeazzi ’18
Boarman was named pitcher of the week after tossing a complete-game, three-hit shutout as Salve Regina opened its conference slate with an 8-0 victory over visiting Gordon College. She struck out a season-high nine (more than double her previous season high) and improved her record to 5-3 on the season.
Galeazzi was named player of the week after collecting six hits in eight at bats in Salve Regina’s doubleheader sweep of Gordon. She had a triple and two doubles, drove in three runs and scored four runs. Galeazzi also stole three bases to raise her conference-leading total to 16.
The Seahawks (6-7, 2-0 CCC) return to action Thursday, March 30 when they travel to Biddeford, Maine for a rescheduled doubleheader with the University of New England.
Baseball: Jimmy Fitzgerald ’18 and Patrick Maybach ’20
Fitzgerald was named pitcher of the week after improving his season record to 3-0 with a complete-game victory over Western New England University. He allowed just five hits while striking out nine Golden Bears in seven innings.
Following a near no-hitter in his debut, Maybach was named rookie of the week after making his second collegiate start with another seven innings of shutout ball. He scattered five hits, walked none and picked off two base runners as Salve Regina defeated Keene State College. In the outing, Maybach struck out 10 to raise his season total to 21 in 16 innings pitched.
Salve Regina (10-2, 2-0 CCC) has won five straight, including a pair over Western New England University last Saturday. The Seahawks return to action Wednesday, March 29 when they host Framingham State University at 3:30 p.m.
