Gibbons, Hennessy to discuss shared interest in Islamic tiling
Dr. Carol Gibbons and Dr. Jayme Hennessy will discuss their shared interest in Islamic tiling and its underlying designs and patterns during “Sacred Geometry: Islam and Infinity,” a presentation scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, April 20 in the McKillop Library.
Members of the Salve Regina community are invited to experience the beautiful spiritual and mathematical relationships to be found in these ancient works and create a geometric pattern of their own based on the geometry of the tilings.
Gibbons is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. She holds a B.A. in mathematics from Merrimack College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Rhode Island.
Hennessy is an associate professor in the Department of Religious and Theological Studies and also serves as the Class of 2016 Dean. She holds a B.M. in church music from Barrington College, an M.A. in religious studies from Providence College and an S.T.L. and S.T.D. in moral theology from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology.
