Haley named player of the week
Joe Haley ’15 has been recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference player of the week for baseball.
Haley batted .611 (11-for-18) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, five RBI, five runs scored and two stolen bases in a 3-2 week for the Seahawks. His top performance came in a doubleheader with Swarthmore College, as he posted four hits in the opening game while slugging a home run and driving in three in the nightcap.
In a 12-inning marathon against Muskingum University, Haley charged a sacrifice bunt attempt from third base and snared the sinking bunt just above the tip of the grass, then fired to first for a rally-killing double play to end the 10th-inning at bat for the visiting Muskies.
“It was fun watching Joe hit all last week, as he was our top catalyst offensively,” said second-year head coach Eric Cirella. “His approach was incredible and he rarely got out of that. I hope everyone can see what made him so successful and we can feed off of that as a team.”
If field conditions permit, the Seahawks will open their home schedule against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, March 18.
