Holiday concerts feature choral groups, band and orchestra
The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will present four Christmas and holiday concerts featuring performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.
Admission to all concerts is $10 for general, $8 for students and senior citizens and free for Salve Regina students with valid University ID. To purchase tickets in advance, visit salve.edu/performances. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Newport County Orchestra, directed by Vincent Mattera, will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Casino Theatre. The program will feature pieces by Franz Schubert, Leo Delibes, Leroy Anderson and other composers.
The Newport Community Symphonic Band, directed by Peter Davis, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 in the Casino Theatre. The program will feature pieces by Robert Buckley, Morten Lauridsen, Leroy Anderson and other composers. The concert will also include performances by the Salve Regina jazz ensembles.
The University’s choral concert, directed by Dr. Donald St. Jean, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 in Ochre Court. The program will feature the University Chorus, Madrigals, a cappella groups and student soloists. Selections will include Franz Schubert’s “Mass in G,” traditional carols and other seasonal favorites.
