Holiday concerts feature choral groups, band and symphony
The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will present three Christmas and holiday concerts that will include performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.
Admission to all concerts is $8 for general and $5 for youths and senior citizens. Tickets are available in advance and may be reserved by calling (401) 341-2295.
The Newport County Orchestra, directed by Vincent Mattera, will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 in the Casino Theatre. The orchestra is composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students. The program will include the music of Joseph Haydn and Antonio Vivaldi.
The Newport Community Symphonic Band, directed by Peter Davis, will perform “Overture to a Winter Festival” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 in the Casino Theatre. The performance will also include performances by the Salve Regina jazz ensemble.
The University’s choral concert, “Breath of Heaven,” directed by Dr. Donald St. Jean, will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in Ochre Court. The program will feature the university chorus, Madrigals and the men’s and women’s a cappella groups. Selections will include Franz Schubert’s Mass in G, traditional carols and other seasonal selections.
