Jubilee Year closes with “Hands Across Campus” ceremony
Please note: Due to inclement weather, the “Hands Across Campus” ceremony has been moved to the Ochre Court great hall.
The Salve Regina community will gather to close the University’s Jubilee Year of Mercy with “Hands Across Campus” ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the gates of Ochre Court.
President Jane Gerety, RSM will open the ceremony with a reflection on the enduring animating spirit of mercy alive on the campus. Following Sister Jane’s remarks, the crowd will be asked to form a human chain stretching along Ochre Point Avenue to the O’Hare Academic Building.
Once in place, a small plaque will be passed, person to person, from Ochre Court to O’Hare, where it will be hung at the conclusion of the renovation. As the plaque passes, participants will be asked to gather on the McAuley Hall lawn for the conclusion of the event.
In April 2015, Pope Francis announced an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, a year that calls us to reflect on the tender mercy of God, to seek that mercy for our own lives, and to dedicate our lives to bring that mercy to the world. The Jubilee Year began Dec. 8, 2015 and will close Nov. 20, 2016.
Throughout its celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Salve Regina presented numerous events allowing for reflection on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
