McMackin named rookie of the year for women’s soccer
Abby McMackin ’19 has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference rookie of the year for women’s soccer. Joining her on the all-conference squad is Jessica Broadhurst ’16, who was named to the third team as a defender.
McMackin was an invaluable addition to the Seahawks squad, helping lead the program to a conference championship berth for the first time since 2012. She entered the tournament leading all Salve Regina players with 10 goals, 23 points and two game-winning goals. McMackin also ranked fourth in the conference in goals scored and total points.
Broadhurst led a defensive effort for the Seahawks that posted shutouts in the final four games of the season (3-0-1). She got the call on most corner kick opportunities, assisting on two goals, including an overtime game-winner against Fitchburg State University. Broadhurst also scored two goals this season, one on a penalty kick.
The Seahawks lost to Endicott College 1-0 in quarterfinal action last Saturday, closing their season with a 9-9-1 record.
