Men’s ice hockey advances to conference championship
John Scorcia ’15 registered a hat trick as part of a six-point performance to help the men’s ice hockey team earn a 9-3 victory over Johnson & Wales University and advance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast championship.
Also scoring goals for the Seahawks were Matthew Carroll ’15, Ty Gradwell ’18, Alex Pompeo ’16, Evan Schultz ’17 and Lucas Sousa ’16.
The Seahawks outshot Johnson & Wales 50-23 and scored three goals in every period while going 2-2 on the power play. They improve to 12-9-3 and will face No. 1 seed Nichols College in the conference championship, scheduled for 4:40 p.m. Saturday, March 7.
Scorcia’s three-goal, three-assist effort made him the program’s all-time leading scorer with 105 career points.
“Johnny has always been someone we can count on,” said heach coach Andy Boschetto. “He puts the team before himself, and doesn’t care about the accolades but for the team’s ultimate success. I am excited for him and his teammates to have an opportunity to finish what they have started. Nichols is a very good team; Saturday will be a great game.”
