Men’s ice hockey names trio of captains
As the Salve Regina men’s ice hockey team prepares for its 2013-2014 campaign, head coach Andy Boschetto has announced a trio of captains for this year: Alex Barr ’14 and returning captains Scott McMenimen ’15 and John Scorcia ’15.
“Barr exemplifies everything Salve Regina wants in its captains. We are excited to add him in with Scorcia and McMenimen,” Boschetto said. “His work ethic on and off the ice, along with his leadership and willingness to put team before himself, has been extremely noticeable by his teammate and coaches.”
Last year, McMenimen and Scorcia captained a team that reached the Eastern College Athletic Association Northeast championship game for the first time in school history. The Seahawks finished the season 10-14-3, marking the most wins by a Seahawk team since the 2006-2007 season.
Scorcia returns as the team’s top scorer with 31 points last year (11 goals, 20 assists), while McMenimen and Barr return to anchor a defense that had just a 3.88 goals against average last year.
Salve Regina opens its 2013-2014 campaign at home Nov. 2 when the Seahawks welcome Franklin Pearce University to the Portsmouth Abbey rink for a 4:35 p.m. face-off.
