Men’s soccer players earn conference honors
Men’s soccer players Matthew O’Donnell ’19 and Michael Payan ’19 recently received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
O’Donnell was named offensive player of the week after leading Salve Regina to a 1-0-1 week and scoring a hat trick in the Seahawks’ 3-0 win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. O’Donnell is the first Salve Regina men’s soccer player to score a hat trick since 2015.
Payan was named defensive player of the week after making four saves in goal to earn the shutout over Coast Guard. He also made four saves in leading the Seahawks to a shutout draw in double overtime against Endicott College. Payan leads the conference in shutouts (6), fewest goals allowed (3) and goals against average (.360), and is second in save percentage (.900).
Salve Regina (7-0-1, 1-0-1 CCC) has its second-best start to a season and plays a pair of home games this week – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 versus Massachusetts Maritime Academy and 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 versus Western New England University.
