Pair of Seahawks named preseason all-Americans
Two Salve Regina football players have been named preseason all-Americans by Lindy’s College Football for the 2013 season. Center Floyd Shaffer ’14 garnered first team honors, while cornerback Phil Terio ’15 earned a spot on the second team.
Last season, Shaffer and Terio helped the Seahawks to their first New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division championship since 2000.
Shaffer, a first team all-NEFC Boyd Division and D3football.com all-New England selection, was the center on arguably the best offensive line in the conference last season. With him leading the way, the Seahawks averaged 32.4 points and 374.8 yards per game last season. The Seahawks ran for more than 100 yards in every game except for their season opener, in which they fell just short with 92 total rushing yards. The team topped 150 yards on the ground in seven of their 10 games while eclipsing the 200-yard mark four times.
Terio was a Beyond Sports Network all-American and a two-time D3Football.com all-America selection during his historic sophomore season. He set the NCAA Division III record for most interceptions returned for a touchdown (4) last season and tied the record for total touchdown returns (6) in a single season, while his seven interceptions on the year rank second all-time at Salve Regina. Along with his all-American honors, Terio was named to the D3football.com all-East region team, the Division II-III all-New England team and the NEFC all-Boyd Division first team, while also being honored as the NEFC Boyd Division defensive player and return specialist of the year.
Salve Regina is the only team in the New England region to place two players on the preseason all-America teams and the only team in the NEFC to have at least one player honored by Lindy’s College Football.
