Pop-up holiday market will feature emerging artists

Field of Artisans – a community of emerging artists, photographers, designers, builders and musicians – is collaborating with Salve Regina for a pop-up holiday market open to the University community and the general public.

The market will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 in Ochre Court.

Participating artisans include:

Atlantic Impressions: Michelle collects local seaweed across New England, sorts, cleans, arranges and presses it into beautiful forms. She then frames the one-of-a-kind piece or creates greeting cards.

Beauty as Duty Art: Watercolor artist Caitlin illustrates images that take us to a different time or story. She’s inspired by WWII propaganda, circus and other vintage themes. With her vintage focus, she’s chosen to pair some of her designs with compact mirrors.

Blank Space Collection: Hallie sketches and stitches color and sarcasm into fun-loving images and messages. Her embroidery pieces will brighten up any mood with an ironic combination of cheeky phrases embroidered into sampler hoops.

Blue I Designs: Kelly is a self-taught metalsmith whose jewelry is hand-forged using traditional techniques. Her jewelry incorporates sterling silver, fine silver, natural stones, locally harvested sea glass, freshwater pearls and more.

Colleen Townsend: Colleen’s jewelry is delicate, sparkly and eye-catching. She designs and creates using materials from fine gemstones to historic sea glass. Her work has been worn by Hollywood actresses such as Jeri Ryan and Sophina Brown.

Downtown Designs/Looking Upwards: Melissa works with seven artisans who have disabilities. They create a variety of handcrafted jewelry and artwork supported by Looking Upwards in Newport.

Goodland Pottery: Jan creates wood-fired pottery that is functional and decorative at the same time. Her style is organic and natural. One might see one of her tea sets in a woodland fairy home. Her glazes are neutral but some also have an iridescent quality to them.

iDazz Custom Designs: Trish designs jewelry with a vintage flair. She works with quality gemstone and pearl while incorporating antique themes using vintage art deco pieces, buttons, buckles, brooches, clips and glass into her collections.

Island Design Glass: Jennifer creates original, custom and restoration stained glass. Her wide range of creative experience is evident in her light catching, multi-dimensional work. Many of her pieces are Rhode Island and Newport themed.

Jen Marshall Studio: Jen’s barware is hand-painted with whimsical and detailed patterns. Her color palette is neutral and typically includes gold, rose gold and silver. She’ll have flutes, wine glasses, coasters and more.

Jeremy Paul Schilling: Using oils, watercolors, pen and ink and other mediums, Jeremy creates original focused pieces and archival prints. He showcases different themes and explorations with a variety of in-depth series.

Kate Simpson Designs: Kate’s sterling silver jewelry is dainty yet eye-catching. She hand-makes every detail, right down to the clasp and links. She is often incorporating pearls, coral and shells in her pieces.

Kim’s Painted Glass: Kim creates translucent and colorful window art or sun catchers. She cuts and grinds the glass into the desired shape and size, designs and paints the unique image and lines the edges with copper and solder.

Lewis Farm Peonies: Fiber artist Julie dyes scarves, table runners, napkins and other accessories using the Japanese Shibori method. She also uses plant materials to dye scarves and stationary, creating color schemes and organic prints reminiscent of falling leaves.

Liz Renshaw Photography: Liz is a scenery and wildlife photographer who seeks to capture moments or scenes that connect the viewer to their favorite place or spark a childhood memory. She places a heavy focus on Newport landmarks and nature scenery.

Mermaid Tears: Mary Beth creates ocean-inspired work with handmade clay mermaids and sea creatures. She uses locally found sea glass and seashells and incorporates them into beautiful underwater framed scenes.

M.EYEimages: Everything Michelle creates is completely by hand and ranges across stained glass, brass and sterling silver jewelry, mosaics, housewares and yard games. Her work captures movement, ebb and flow and features from the natural world.

Painting Daisies: Local photographer Tracey captures the essence of summer in New England, with a large focus on South County. Her popular beach cruiser shots often feature a brightly colored vintage bike covered in flowers or parked outside a beach.

Pause for Peace: Inspired by her dog Jasper, PJ creates Zentering Bracelets handmade with healing gemstones and mindfulness charms to help remind you to pause for peace and just breathe. Each bracelet is made with jasper, a gemstone known as the “supreme nurturer.”

Rarities Books and Bindery: Kelly creates hand-bound journals out of antique papers and leathers. You’ll find blank paged, lined journals and also journals that are catered towards beer/wine lovers. She also makes preservation boxes to store journals or precious items.

Red Chair Studio Clay: Christine creates hand-built contemporary ceramics. She pays close attention to detail and uses multiple techniques such as screen printing, hand painting and embossing when adding decoration to her sophisticated forms.

Rhonda Melucci: Rhonda’s leather barrettes are hand cut, painted or etched, stained and varnished. Her wreaths are made for the appropriate season with flowers, greenery and other detail. Her paintings tie everything together with a focus on nature and color.

RI Mermaid: Diane finds her own sea glass and creates three-dimensional mermaid scenes on canvas. Each piece comes with quotes or personalized sayings. A fun, whimsical gift for any beach lover.

Rosemarie Bottari: Rosemarie crochets and knits styles for children, including sweaters, dresses and maybe even a hat with reindeer antlers. Rosemarie has also written a holiday children’s book, which may be published just in time for the market.

Sun Enterprise: Local artist and musician Dennis creates sterling silver jewelry with carved amulets such as fossil, bone, petrified wood, meteorite and other gems. His work has an organic look with a magical quality to it.

Violet Drury Designs: Using carefully chosen pearls and semi-precious stones, Violet employs traditional stringing methods and wire wrapping techniques to create delicate, feminine jewelry. Her pieces are wearable for a variety of occasions.
