Powers receives NAACP community service award
Kelly Powers, director of community service, recently received the 2018 community service award from the Newport County branch of the NAACP.
“Your involvement, commitment and dedication to improving conditions and services connecting Newport community organizations with your volunteer expertise is exemplary,” NAACP president James Winters wrote in announcing the award.
Powers has spent countless hours volunteering with organizations such as Rebuilding Together, Hope Funds for Cancer Research, Child & Family, the Salvation Army and Clean Ocean Access.
A New Hampshire native, Powers earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Springfield College. She was named a top 10 groundbreaker by Newport Life magazine and received Salve Regina’s staff community service award in 2008 and 2016.
