Recent graduates working to foster alumni connections
When students become alumni, they have a variety of opportunities to stay connected to their alma mater – from volunteering for event committees to attending reunion and homecoming weekends to supporting student scholarships.
Two recent graduates – Kenechukwu Okwuosa ’13 and Rita Del Rios ’09 – are helping to foster those connections as members of Salve Regina’s Office of University Relations and Advancement.
Okwuosa, who was named annual giving officer in 2013, majored in philosophy and political science at Salve Regina, played football and led admissions tours. “I am so excited to provide our young alumni with opportunities to give back and to help today’s students create their own Salve experiences,” he said.
Del Rios, who was named alumni officer in 2014, majored in marketing at Salve Regina, was a student employee in Alumni/Parent Programs and was one of five students in the U.S. to win a fellowship from the Council for Advancement and Support for Education in 2009. “We want our students and alumni to be passionate about where they came from – and want to create those same experiences for others,” she said.
Okwuosa’s latest initiative, “Quote of the Week,” encourages alumni and other members of the University community to connect through Facebook. Each Tuesday, he will share a new quote focusing on the Salve Regina experience and the ideals of the Sisters of Mercy.
Other initiatives that Okwuosa and Del Rios are currently planning include:
- 100 Days Party – Friday, Feb. 6
- Women’s Ice Hockey Alumni Weekend – Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7
- Hoopsfest – Saturday, Feb. 7
- Men’s Lacrosse Alumni Dinner – Saturday, Feb. 21
- Alumni Spotlights
- Throwback Thursdays/Flashback Fridays
Salve Regina graduates are encouraged to join the alumni community’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for the latest updates.
