Roundtable to explore gun violence in American schools
In the wake of the most recent shooting at Parkland High School in Florida, gun violence in America’s schools will be the topic of an upcoming roundtable discussion sponsored by the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy.
“From Virginia Tech to Sandy Hook to Parkland: Guns, Schools and Where We Go From Here” will be moderated by Dr. Craig Condella, associate professor in the Department of Philosophy. The roundtable will be held at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the O’Hare Academic Building, Room 242.
This most recent tragedy has brought with it a new dimension: students actively and forcefully speaking out on an issue that they feel cannot be ignored any longer. Will these student voices be heard? Can we move beyond a political stalemate on this issue? Are we at a breaking point here or is this just the latest wrinkle in an ongoing struggle?
Roundtable discussions are open to Salve Regina students, faculty and staff. The Pell Center provides a free lunch. As space is limited, those interested in attending should RSVP to (401) 341-2927 or pellcenter@salve.edu.
