Salve Regina hosting second annual Relay for Life Oct. 18
After raising more than $12,000 for the American Cancer Society during the inaugural Relay for Life last October, Salve Regina will host its second annual event on Sunday, Oct. 18. All members of the University community are invited to participate.
Designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society’s research and programs, Relay for Life events feature teams of people gathering at schools, fairground or parks to take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member moving at all times.
Salve Regina’s event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn, will follow a superhero theme. “Throughout the day, we are planning superhero-themed events and yard games, sports teams will be putting together pickup games, WSRU will be playing music all day, Sodexo and other outside food vendors will be feeding the crowd, and all the while we will be unified for a great cause – fighting cancer,” said Amanda Smith ’17, chair of the Relay for Life planning committee.
Students, faculty and staff may visit www.relayforlife.org/salveregina to make a donation and/or join or form a team. For more information, email Smith at amanda.smith@salve.edu.
Relay for Life fundraising supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to help people stay well through early detection and prevention, get well once diagnosed through a variety of programs and services for cancer survivors and their caregivers, and find a cure for cancer through groundbreaking research.
