Seahawks ranked fifth in both national polls
A pair of shutouts last week helped the men’s ice hockey team move up in the polls, resetting the bar for highest ranking in program history. The team is now ranked fifth in the nation by D3Hockey.com and U.S. College Hockey Online.
Salve Regina locked up the Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season championship with a pair of shutouts against Nichols College last week. In the first game, the Seahawks scored four goals in the second period to break a scoreless tie on their way to a 4-0 road win. In the second game, Timothy Sweeney ’21 tipped home a loose puck to give the Seahawks the lead late in the third period of a 2-0 home victory.
The Seahawks (19-4-2, 14-2-2) continue to add to their program record for wins in a season and earned the top seed in the conference. They will host eighth-seeded Western New England University at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 in the quarterfinals.
