SGA partnering with Uber for discounted rides
The Student Government Association has established a new partnership with Uber to offer subsidized rides around Newport for undergraduate students. SGA is offering two programs with Uber: safe rides and a leisure program.
Through the safe rides program, SGA will cover the first $3 of permitted trips, which will be available from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Through safe rides, students will receive the $3 discount on any ride in the city of Newport. The leisure program allows students to take rides between permitted locations at any time with a $2 discount.
Students may register through this link using their salve.edu email address.
“This partnership with Uber is a great opportunity for the Student Government Association and Salve Regina as a whole, offering more resources for our students while ensuring safe transportation,” said Eddie Cullinane ’19, SGA treasurer.
Uber offers many features to safeguard riders. The Uber app automatically finds your location to provide door-to-door service, meaning you stay safe and comfortable wherever you are until your driver arrives. When you’re matched with a driver, you’ll see his/her name, license plate number, photo and rating, so you know who’s picking you up ahead of time. After the trip, you’re able to contact your driver if you left something behind. Once your driver has picked you up, share your ETA with your friends and family so they can follow your route and know when to expect you.
“It is great to see SGA-led initiatives become implemented on campus and make an impact on our campus community while supporting local businesses,” said Lauren Healy ’18, SGA president.
