Softball team wins second consecutive conference championship
The softball team captured its second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference championship with a 3-0 win over Roger Williams University on Sunday.
The league’s pitcher of the year, Kelsey Boarman ’17, gave up eight hits in the first five innings but worked out of each jam. Meanwhile, outfielder Lexi Soucie ’17 singled to open the third inning, but did not get beyond second base.
In the fourth inning, Nikki Bukovsky ’17 drove in Elizabeth Lombardo ’19 with a bunt single for the game’s first run. Soucie followed with her second base hit, a single to left center that plated Amanda Riley ’19 and Bukovsky for a 3-0 lead. Boarman retired the last seven Hawks she faced and finished with three strikeouts.
With seven straight wins in conference postseason play, the Seahawks won back-to-back titles for the third time in program history. Their 25 wins in a season match a program-high mark set in 2009.
With the win, Salve Regina earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III championships.
